Conveniently located halfway between Kona and Waimea, and not to be confused with the Waikoloa Beach Resort, Waikoloa Village sits at a comfortable +/- 1,000 foot elevation above the Kohala Coastline on the west side of the Big Island. Originally conceived by master plan developer Boise Cascade in the 1970’s as a resort and retirement community featuring golf and equestrian components, Waikoloa Village offers a mix of workforce housing, condominiums and upscale ocean view homes for full and part time residents.
In addition to the community golf course, there is a homeowners association that manages a community pool and tennis/pickle ball courts. Longtime residents of the Village love the warm, dry days capped with the cooler nights and often breezy trade wind conditions.
A new shopping center is in the works and is set to offer the ever-expanding Village more options for dining and shopping, however the Highland’s Shopping Center in town has been a long time staple and currently offers all of the basic necessities. The town of Waimea is a quick 25 minute drive north of Waikoloa Village and offers all of the additional conveniences one might need.
I highly recommend Pueo’s Osteria for an authentically delicious Italian meal…. Mangia!
